As the Vice President of Food and Benefits Access at United Way of New York City, Cheryl and her team connected 500 emergency food providers to capacity building support, nutrition education, and high quality, culturally appropriate and local foods. She advanced procurement strategies that prioritized local and BIPOC farmers and food hubs while addressing hunger relief.
For more than a decade Cheryl served as Assistant Director for the esteemed Greenmarket program at GrowNYC, where she developed and operationalized strategic initiatives to increase affordable food access, support farm businesses, and support the use of SNAP and WIC benefits at farmers markets and other local food outlets. Cheryl led several food is medicine programs, including the acceptance of over-the-counter Medicaid benefits at farmers markets.
Cheryl was an appointed member of the NYC Mayoral Transition Team to address food policy needs in 2021.
